Cycling therapy is a different approach to counselling, encouraging you to become more connected with your well-being and the natural environment. If you own a bicycle, you might wish to participate in this form of exercise, combining traditional talking therapy along with cycling.

The beauty of the natural environment has healing properties and can bring lasting benefits when used as a soothing backdrop to counselling, especially when exercise releases endorphins in your body and the steady rhythm of pedalling helps you relax and appreciate the world around you. The mind clears and you return feeling refreshed and at peace.

There are many reasons why people choose to participate in cycling. While the majority of individuals simply enjoy being outdoors and find the experience to be uplifting, some need to be encouraged to use their local outdoor spaces to improve their confidence, assertiveness and well-being.

We will work collaboratively to develop an individual plan that could involve activities such as a gentle ride along the Taunton canal path or on the Quantock Hills. There are many scenic and peaceful outdoor opportunities in the local area which cater for varying levels of exertion to suit your needs but all activities are agreed and contracted in the therapy room prior to any outdoor experience.

Appropriate clothing is required so these sessions will be planned with your involvement and consent.

There are many possibilities and the only guideline (along with your doctor’s approval) is that the time spent outdoors should feel comforting, rejuvenating and be fun.
